a prince picked a basket full of golden apples in the enchanted orchard. on his way home, he was stopped by a troll who guarded the orchard. the troll demanded payment of one-half the apples plus two more. the prince gave him the apples and set off again. a little further on he was stopped by a second troll guard. the troll demanded payment of one-half the apples he had then plus two more. the prince paid and set off again. just before leaving the enchanted orchard, a third troll stopped him and demanded one-half of his remaining apples plus two more.the price paid him and went sadly home. he had only two golden apples left. how many apples had he picked?
Haha i like that one, hold on let me think... So to figure this one out you work backwards.
Once he got to the third troll he would've had 8 apples. Half of that would be four, and plus two more would be six, leaving him with only two. At the second troll he would've had twenty apples. Half of that is ten and plus two more is twelve leaving him only with eight. At the first troll he would've had forty four apples. Half of that would be twenty two plus two more would be twenty four which would leave him twenty apples.
ahhh proud that my brain still works. Haha just checked my work and ya the guy would have forty four apples originally.
